Which brings us to Halloween. The costume. Decisions when you're a cool independent three year old are tough! Wolverine was who he FINALLY narrowed it down to. The claws I think are what sealed the deal, lol! Welp, because I waited too long(in retail's minds)Costco was already sold out of that particular costume, so it was back to square one! From that point on I realized I didn't want my kiddies to look like every other Spidey or Hulk on the block, so came to the conclusion I was gonna go with the diy approach. Every year when I was a kid my mom would bust out fabric, needles and thread and get to sewing THE BEST Halloween costumes for me. I've basically been every Disney Princess there are. Or were then, anyway! My top two favorites were Snow White and Belle. She made this elaborate yellow dress for me to be the perfect Beauty, I can't even imagine now how long it must have taken her! I'll have to scrounge up pictures somewhere and post those later on. I have precious memories about how much work, effort and love she put in and I want to do just that for my babies! They are worth it all, so I got to work. After of course he settled on Thor!! We also decided that Lincoln would make the most darling pint size Captain America!
I used Ryder's action figures as models and did routine online searches. Most of the items I used, I already had on hand so really it worked out well. The only thing I really wanted for him was a snazzy helmet and was going to purchase this one off Amazon BUT I found something better and cheaper! A guide to making your own! I tweaked it a little and felt like I need more detailed instructions but I am so happy with the results! Out of a Huggies box, the coolest helmet was made!
He was so excited for his helmet, and I got the "wow, mama..me just love it"! For his shirt I just cut up one of my old black raggedy shirts and hand sewed felt circles on. For the infamous hammer: small box, hot glue gun, duct tape and black electrical tape.
Easy peasy! The cape too was about as simple as it gets. Red fabric, cut what looked like a cape and used stick on Velcro!
Onto the Captain. At Walmart I was able to find plain blue pants and a top and again with felt, just eyeballed pieces, cut and hand sewed some more!
Took some time but I don't think I'll go store bought for costumes again! I have a few more details to add to both costumes but for the most part, they are good to go!
We are excited for next week, Ryder especially! They will both get to go trick or treating at Daddy's work which is SO FUN!
We will be enjoying this fall weather, hope you do too! Warmest weekend wishes to you!!
Love.
